Also often there is an opportunity to work on the farm harvesting and processing food. We pay foragers for wild nuts they gather. I run the Acornucopia project from here and from it we are developing a foragers network that would very much suit the lifestyle of hipcampers. Coming here is a gastronomical adventure! Our cider can be purchased along with our nut oils and flours and other farm produce you may not be familiar with. The farm is also a small (very small) licensed farm winery and we make and sell traditional hard cider from our apples and pears. One has a dock and is where we spend much summer time refreshing and frolicking. I have also built a number of ponds and four of them are quite swimmable. One of my favorite walks is along the cliffs to the top waterfall where there is a sweet wading pool. On this new land is a historic log cabin I am renovating that is said to be one of the original settler's cabin on the mountain.īecause of the amount of tree fruit I grow and the varied landscape, there is a rich diversity of birds and animals to be seen. Funny thing is that because the land between the old farm and the new farm is divided by cliffs in the holler the only way to get from one to the other is a 12 minute drive or vigorous hiking. It is on top of the mountain and offers an expansive view of the valley and ridge system that defines our region. Just last year I bought an adjoining farm that opened up 50 acres of more orchard planting. I am an eccentric horticulturalist and graft cultivar varieties onto existing trees like oaks, hickories, black walnuts, and even the maligned invasive honeysuckle, autumn olive and multiflora rose. and I boast that I planted the first commercial hickory oil orchard in the world. I started with pears and have branched out into pawpaws, apples, persimmons, currants, black walnuts etc. I acquired stewardship of this land 35 years ago and have developed perennial orchards wherever possible. Each of these supports its own flora and fauna. ![]() The fields are full of fruit and nut trees and there are 5 ponds. We have great mountain top views, as well as, a deep holler with cliffs, rock outcroppings, and waterfalls. Farm special is the diversity of textures of the landscape. Bainbridge (7 miles south) has gas, hardware, a couple of restaurants, dollar store, amish businesses, etc. Greenfield (5 miles north) is the nearest town and has two grocery stores, restaurants, a bar, hardware, gas, etc. A grassy parking area is provided near the road, however, ALL SITES ARE WALK-IN ONLY. There are two shared privies/outhouses which have basic composting toilets. The sites are spaced out for privacy and each site offers a private picnic table and fire pit. Our accommodations range from primitive tent-camping to "glamping" in one of our tiny off-grid cabins. This area is home to an impressive network of ancient earthworks including the world famous Serpent Mound. Amish country is also just 15 minutes away with a great bakery, markets and greenhouses. Great hiking, kayaking, biking, birding, fishing, swimming, and disc-golfing opportunities just a few miles away at Paint Creek State Park and the Highland Nature Sanctuary. There is also a wonderful sauna on the property that can be reserved. Enjoy the sounds of nature and an incredible night sky.įarm fresh eggs and fresh produce are available for purchase during the growing season and firewood is available all year round. Our peaceful 20 acres has a good mix of woods, wild meadows and maintained cleared areas as well as a small pond, all of which can be explored via our nature trail.
